Position Summary
The Ministry Assistant position's responsibilities are to provide assistance and support to all activities of the Ontario Corps and, as directed provide spiritual leadership and operational management to maintain The Salvation Army programs, members, and services of the Corps.
Essential Functions
Conduct Salvation Army religious services including but not limited to: Corps programs including Troops, Sunday School, Nursery, teen night and young adult programs, Corps Cadets and Jr Soldiers, and other midweek or weekend services as needed and as directed.
Assist in conducting and/or taking records of Advisory Board and Corps Council Meetings.
Direct and Conduct group community meetings such as Youth Corps Meetings YPL, Music classes, songsters, Annual Christmas Play, Troops, CCM, Encore and Bible Bowl.
Must have knowledge of playing and instructing music.
Conduct and support Women's Ministry meetings including Home league, REAL and other women's ministry meetings, including Regional, Divisional, or territorial events, on or off campus, as needed and as directed.
Assist in program management and successful operations, including but not limited to: Pastoring soldiers, Friends, and interested community members, Visiting Corps and Community members, (including shut-ins)
Driving for programs including VBS, Day Camp, Troops, Summer Camp, picking up donations or toys, driving seasonal workers, corps members and assisting in seasonal operations, and picking up materials or food for the corps, as needed and as directed.
Assist in weekly meal prep, including but not limited to preparing, cooking, cleaning, sanitation, doing dishes, serving, packaging meals and meal delivery as directed.
Assist in program management and successful operations including but not limited to Business matters affecting and relating directly to assigned corps, maintaining fiscal integrity of the assigned corps (including complete and proper record keeping and security), and ensuring high standards of stewardship for funds, property and resources.
Assist in seasonal operations such as Kettles, Toy Drives, Food Drives, and Angel Tree, including Christmas sign ups, and other holiday events such as Truck or Treat and Harvest Fest, Easter Holy Week, and other holidays or special events, as directed and as needed.
Maintain proper records, (including statistical, financial, and all others required)
Maintain good public relations, function in harmony with The Salvation Army guidelines, promote, direct and support special events and activities for assigned Corps.
Supervise assigned staff, oversee processing of employee matters and documentation through Human Resources, including hiring seasonal and temporary employees.
Must have basic computer knowledge including typing, Excel and Word.
Data Entry including but not limited to Gift-in-Kind, Stats, Feeding San Diego, and Corps Management, and Kettle Web.
Answering the telephone, making phone calls, answering the door when available to do so, and interacting with clients needing services. Good communication skills a must.
Assist in Fundraising activities including but not limited too Kettle Kick Off, Jingle Jog and other fundraising efforts for the successful operation of the Escondido Corps, as needed.
Assist in social services programs such as food distribution, homeless services, senior fitness programs, senior meal program, and other social services programs as needed.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Ability to walk, stand, bend squat climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to lift up to 50lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as file cabinet drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax copy machine and telephone.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Additional Education helpful.
Basic computer knowledge and typing skills, including Word, Publisher, and Excel. (No minimum wpm required).
Ability to read, write and communicate well in English. Bilingual in English/Spanish is beneficial, but not required.
Ability to use multi-line network telephone system.
Minimum of 3 years ministry experience required, Salvation Army Ministry programs preferred, but not required.
Must have and maintain a valid Class B California Driver's License.
Must successfully complete The Salvation Army's driver safety program before driving and will be required to recertify annually as required.
Must meet certification by and participation in The Salvation Army's Fleet Safety Program. (The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Policy dictates that an employee may not obtain more than two (2) moving violations or accidents within any 12-month period; see The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Policy)

Must be committed to The Salvation Army's Christian Mission and Ministry.
Detail oriented, self-motivated and team player with excellent communication skills.
Ability and willingness to keep information confidential.
Must have a willingness and flexibility to learn and do new tasks, including but not limited to EDS and Canteen service.
Must have knowledge of cooking and preparing meals, and a willingness to prepare meals for large numbers of people.
