Breastfeeding has many benefits it supplies newborns with essential nutrients and protects them against diseases and infections. Though breast-feeding is easy for some women, for many new moms it can be a struggle and the right advice and support can make a big difference. Here at NYU Winthrop Hospital, all our nursing staff are extensively trained in breastfeeding education. We also have certified lactation consultants who provide much-needed guidance to new and expecting moms, answering questions on positioning, latching on and other issues. In honor of National Breastfeeding Month, our lactation consultant, Karen Hylton-McGuire, PhD (c), RNC-NIC, IBCLC, shares her top five breastfeeding tips.
