Our Springfields site was honored to welcome Dame Sue Ion to our fuel facility. It was extremely interesting to hear about Westinghouses Accident Tolerant Fuel (ATF) programme, EnCore Fuel, which is a game-changing technology for existing PWR technology such as the companys AP1000 reactors and possibly the Westinghouse SMR. Touring the companys fuel manufacturing facility at their Springfields site, in Lancashire, where Westinghouse is working with the UK's National Nuclear Lab (NNL) to develop advanced manufacturing processes for ATF fuel was exciting not just for me personally, but also from an industry perspective, as Westinghouse and NNL are working to offer enhanced safety, cleaner energy and increased nuclear fuel efficiency. It is really promising seeing ATF innovation here in the UK, building on the investment made in the National Fuel Centre of Excellence which capitalises on Springfields facilities and expertise and those at the University of Manchester.
