In November of 1921, Pilot J.A. Yonge (far right) got two separate UL certifications through the airworthiness program: one for his Akers biplane, and one for himself as a pilot. This photo was taken at Ashburn Field, the first airport in Chicago. Testing was carried out by UL employee Major R.W. Schroeder, who at one point held a world record for the highest altitude achieved in flight. (Photo courtesy of the UL Archives Dept.)
