Summer heat equals warmer Tennessee River temperatures. Sequoyah Nuclear Plant is using its twin cooling towers to help cool down the water used by the condensers to convert steam back into water. The puffy looking clouds coming out of the towers is water vapor caused by the difference between the air and water temperatures. Unlike our Watts Bar Nuclear Plant, Sequoyah Nuclear Plant doesn''t use its two cooling towers all the time.

The Eastern Tennessee Power Company was established in 1910 and commenced construction of a dam and powerhouse at Parksville on the Ocoee River, 16 miles east of Cleveland, Tenn. This first power project, Ocoee No. 1, became operational in January 1912. The company soon changed its name to the Tennessee Power Company and, in 1922, TPC merged with two other companies to create the Tennessee Electric Power Company (TEPCO). TVA acquired the TEPCO facilities in August 1939. #TBT #BuiltForThePeople
