The Haitian National Amputee Soccer team visited #TexasHealth Southwest to take a functional movement screen- a modified version of the 3-D motion capture technology known as Lower Extremity Assessment Program (LEAP). LEAP detects subtle movements unseen by the human eye to help athletes determine their level of risk for injury. An estimated 200,000 ACL injuries occur each year, making it one of the most commonly injured ligaments in the knee, according to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). The risk of ACL injury is even higher for athletes participating in high-risk, contact sports such as soccer. Swipe for a photo of the test in action!
