Syncrude President and CEO Mark Ward announced today he is retiring after nearly 40 years in the industry. Mark joined Syncrude in May 2014 and accomplished a tremendous amount towards our goals of eliminating high potential incidents, improving profitability and preparing for the future. My career has taken me around the world from my home state of Texas to Indonesia, Venezuela, Qatar, Nigeria and Canada. Each brought a unique and rewarding experience, but the most rewarding was my last three-plus years here at Syncrude, says Mark. The oil sands is an exciting and challenging business. But the quality of people here is what stands out. There many examples of employees pulling together to meet a common goal, but Im most proud of how Syncrude responded during the 2016 wildfire. Syncrude thanks Mark for his commitment and contributions to the company and the community and wishes him well in his upcoming retirement. We also wish to welcome Doreen Cole as our new top executive effective December 11. Doreen brings 24 years of experience and a track record of performance improvement in the Alberta oil sands, refining, power and utility industries. She was most recently Suncors Senior Vice President, Regional Maintenance and Reliability, based in Fort McMurray.

We have always believed the support and strength of our employees are imperative to our success. Toward this, we have established strong employee programs and support for a wide range of labour pool development initiatives. We feel this focus will also enhance attraction and retention rates, and build an organization of proud and motivated employees. As well, we prefer to hire from within the local Wood Buffalo region whenever possible. #SyncrudeProud #oilsands #ymm #rmwb
