Today, Lila will celebrate Thanksgiving at her daughter Jills house. This year, theyll have some extra company from her new family which she formed almost six weeks ago. On October 16 after leaving her boyfriend Allans house, Lila started to feel like she couldnt breathe. She cracked a car window open to let in some air and drove out of her way to go by St. Lukes Hospital. As she pulled into the parking garage, she went into full cardiac arrest. Dante, a Crossroads Courier employee, was making his rounds at St. Lukes that night. He noticed his normal parking area was blocked. As he approached the car, he saw a woman slumped over. Immediately, he called 9-1-1 and waved down two employees in scrubs walking out of the hospital. St. Lukes PCTs Tara and Trish were late getting off work when Dante flagged them down. They rushed to Lilas car, which was locked, but Trish was able to reach her hand through the cracked window to unlock it. They found Lila unresponsive with no pulse. Trish and Tara performed CPR until the ambulance arrived. Lila was wheeled into the emergency room where St. Lukes employees continued to successfully resuscitate her. After surgery and a few weeks in the hospital, Lila is finishing her recovery at St. Lukes Surrey Place. She encourages women to pay attention to their bodies and any signs that seem off. Every day, Lila would walk half a mile with her dog, but the week prior to her event, she noticed she was short of breath. It was just one week of being short of breath, but that was my signal. Thinking back to October 16, Lila said, That night was an unbelievable series of events the cracked window, Trish and Tara getting off late, and Dante being there, who is my hero, said Lila. It was an absolute miracle. A very happy Thanksgiving weekend to Lila and her "new family" members! Photo (from L-R): Front row - Allan, Lila, Jill; Back row - Tara, Dante, Trish
