I choked on a marshmallow, a strawberry, a hot dog when I was young. But recently I have choked more frequently on things like salad, small food and a fruit leather. The fruit leather was when I had (to give myself the) Heimlich and thought I should get it looked at The therapist worked with me to build my tongue muscle and to kind of think about how I chew on both sides to get the food down...I learned a lot about how you swallow, which is weird, but is wonderful I havent choked since I started therapy I can eat and not feel insecure about eating. - Bri, St. Charles Madras outpatient speech therapy patient
  • #humansofstcharles ""I get to be in contact with people and hopefully help them have a better day than when they walked in thats what brought me to St. Charles - we have the ability to make people happier."" -Alan, Environmental Services, St. Charles Bend
  • #humansofstcharles ""I walk into a patients room and they always assume that Im the nurse. And, if I walk in with a male nurse, they address him. The whole idea of the button was just to wear it to identify that Im a person that would be interested in discussing how you feel about equality and diversity and how its represented in our hospital."" -Kate, Physician Assistant, St. Charles Bend
