It''s #InternationalSlothDay! Sloths are one of the many important species that call the forests of Colombia home. For decades in the municipality of La Union, expanding agricultural frontiers and inadequate productive practices had damaged and fragmented the forest, causing biodiversity loss and reducing the forests capacity to regulate and keep water clean. Enter Monica - a Rare Fellow and passionate environmental educator committed to bridging the trust gap between farmers and government officials who had long been at odds at how to best manage their land. By truly putting herself in each of their shoes, She was better able to understand their challenges and help them work together to find a solution that strengthened their sense of community and protected the water resources they depended on. Over time, Monica managed to earn not only peoples trust, but their heartand it didnt take long. Her commitment and unique personality shone through from the startit wasnt odd to see Monica riding her motorcycle up the farms dirt roads with a life-size sloth mascot hugging her back. Meet Rocky Sanchez-Tirona, our Philippines team inspirational leader! Read more about Rocky below: #Repost @bayoclothing (@get_repost) Social responsibility is nothing new to Rocky Sanchez-Tirona. Having conceptualized many corporate social responsibility campaigns back when she was an advertising executive, Rocky already knew how it worked. But when @rare_org, an international organization that has worked in over 50 countries, came to the Philippines, Rocky had her work cut out for her. Focusing on marine and fishery resources through a program called Fish Forever, Rocky and her team work with municipalities and fishermen all over the country to teach best practices in conservation, and to inspire measurable change in communities.
