A new study reveals endangered species make up 1/3 of the shark fin trade34% of which are dominated by blue sharks. Yet no international catch limits exist for blues. But theres good news too. Governments can use this new data to put in place strong protections or other robust fisheries management measures for any species that enters the global fin trade. #shark #sharks #conservation #blueshark #endangeredspecies #underthesea

Delicate and nimble, the yellow-footed rock wallaby is one of Arkaroola, Australias most threatened native animals. But thanks to the work of conservationists working and living in the Outback, the wallabies are bouncing back. Theyre in really good numbers, says Doug Sprigg, director of the Arakoola Resort and Wilderness Sanctuary. Theyre a good indicator that the ecosystem is working. : Kerry Trapnell . . . #australia #outback #wallaby #igaustralia #outback #seeaustralia #parksaustralia #outbackaustralia #wallaby

It''s a big week for sharks! As the host of this years 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP12) to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), the Philippines has proposed that whale sharks receive full protection wherever they are found. In addition to focusing on whale sharks, governments are also considering protections for at-risk species such as blue sharks, dusky sharks, white-spotted wedgefish, common guitarfish, and angel sharks. Governments have the opportunity to work together at CoP12 to prioritize the management of these shark species before it is too late. Swipe to see each species in the order theyre listed above. . . . . . #CMSCoP12 #theirfutureisourfuture #shark #sharks #whaleshark #wildlife #blueshark #duskyshark #wedgefish #guitarfish #angelshark #endangeredspecies #underthesea Note: The video footage was supported by a grant from Conservation Media Group. of dusky shark: Alexander Sofonov/Barcroft Media of white-spotted wedgefish: iStockphoto of common guitarfish: Alamy

The Tennessee Wilderness Act of 2017, which grew from two bills passed in long-ago Octobers1984 and 1986would create a new wilderness area and expand five othersincluding the Joyce Kilmer/Slickrock Wilderness Area, seen here. The bill would safeguard 19,556 acres as wildernessthe highest level of protection. : Chris M.
