Penn Traffic Co. was a chain of supermarkets located primarily in the northeastern United States. The company was founded in 1854 and was headquartered in Syracuse, New York. At its peak, Penn Traffic operated over 100 supermarkets and employed over 15,000 people. However, the company struggled financially in the 2000s and filed for bankruptcy in 2003. Its stores were gradually sold off to other supermarket chains, and the company ceased to exist by 2010.
