  • The lawyers in our Paris office are providing pro bono support to LInstitut de LEngagement, an association that is devoted to enhancing the potential opportunities for French youth participating in the service civique. LInstitut was founded in 2012, and its objective is to assist volunteers engaged in the service civique who are recognized for their potential to carry out a project that will reshape the future. Our lawyers assist in conducting trainings providing general and specific advice on corporate and tax matters for LInstitut as well as for its laureates, and brainstorming solutions for better financial structuring of the association. Additionally, the firm provides assistance on all employment law related matters, the implementation of a collective bargaining agreement, and on the election of employee representatives.
  • We are assisting CSVnet, a leading nonprofit association that promotes and supports volunteer organizations that are both registered and not registered with the Italian Voluntary Service Centers, in a project to implement data privacy measures in compliance with the European Union Regulation 2016/679. The EU Regulation 2016/679 reformed data protection rules in the EU with the intention of strengthening and unifying data protection for individuals in the EU in order to give citizens back control over their data and unify the regulation in the EU. Our project with CSVnet will cover the data privacy impact assessment of the organization and involve all personal data processed by the association. The Paul Hastings team is being led by associate Marilena Hyeraci.
  • Paul Hastings recently led a successful pro bono effort in an asylum case for a teenage woman from Cameroon. The asylum applicant fled persecution by local military police in the face of persecution for participating in political protests against government oppression of the English-speaking minority in Cameroon. Our team submitted a pre-hearing statement and a 350-page application, which included medical and psychological reports, for asylum on behalf of the client. Following a merits hearing in the San Diego Immigration Court, the judge granted asylum to the woman. The Paul Hastings team included senior associate Melissa Garcia and associate Steven Wright.
  • We are pleased to announce that Meg Sullivan, our chief business development, marketing & CSR officer, is part of The Aspen Institutes 2017 class of First Mover Fellows. First Movers is the leading global network of intrapreneurs and equips Fellows with the skills and confidence to drive innovations inside companies that add value to the business while positively impacting the lives of consumers, employees and communities around the world.
