Paul Hastings recently led a successful pro bono effort in an asylum case for a teenage woman from Cameroon. The asylum applicant fled persecution by local military police in the face of persecution for participating in political protests against government oppression of the English-speaking minority in Cameroon. Our team submitted a pre-hearing statement and a 350-page application, which included medical and psychological reports, for asylum on behalf of the client. Following a merits hearing in the San Diego Immigration Court, the judge granted asylum to the woman. The Paul Hastings team included senior associate Melissa Garcia and associate Steven Wright.
