Happy graduation, little man! One-month-old Mason Wheeler graduated from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at LIJ Forest Hills with special honors this week. After a difficult delivery, Mason needed to be treated for fluid in his lungs and spent six days in the NICU. His mom, Gabrielle, underwent a C-section and faced several breastfeeding challenges. But she was determined to make it happen and worked with the NICU staff until Mason was able to latch on and #breastfeed. Now weighing in at a hearty 11 pounds, Mason is a prime example of why LIJ Forest Hills was named a Baby Friendly hospital for its dedication to improving breast feeding rates while encouraging mother-infant bonding. Congrats to baby Mason, mom and very proud dad! #breastfeedingmonth
