Today is World Ranger Day! Thank you to all the rangers who risk their lives to save and protect wildlife. Some of our most helpful elephant-saving rangers are anti-poaching dogs. Warrior and Machine are bloodhound brothers who live and work at @loisaba_conservancy in northern Kenya. They came to Loisaba from @oljogi where they were trained from a young age as sniffer dogs. Bloodhounds are incredibly valuable to wildlife protection because they have more than 200 million olfactory cells thats about 40 times as many as humans. Mad Island is part of an expansive coastal wetlands system which, 60 years ago, stretched nearly unbroken along the mid- and upper-Texas Gulf Coast. It lies along the Central Flyway, one of four principal North American migratory bird routes. Nearly 250 species of birdsincluding migrating and resident songbirds, shorebirds, wading birds and waterfowluse the area for nesting, feeding, resting and roosting. In 1993, The Nature Conservancy of Texas, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Dow Chemical, US EPA, Trull Foundation and Communities Foundation of Texas partnered to raise $2.5 million for conservation and preservation of the marshphoto by @ianshivephoto. #Texas #tejas #madisland #beautiful #birds #migratorybirds #conservation #protectpreserve #livenature

Layla and Janae Messerly enjoy the sun on Matador Ranch in the northeastern plains of Montana. In 2002, the Conservancy began leasing parts of the ranch to neighboring ranchers who were suffering from several years of severe droughtessentially offering the Matadors grass to neighboring ranches in exchange for their participation in conservation efforts. Today, 13 ranchers graze their cattle on the Matador, and the grassbank has enabled the Conservancy to leverage conservation on more than 225,000 additional acres of private land without the cost of purchase of the land or of easementsphoto by @amivitale. #montana #usa #ranch #cattle #conservation #livenature
