    Multnomah County issues emergency declaration in response to Gorge fire . Multnomah County Chair Deborah Kafoury issued a declaration of emergency today at 5:42 a.m. in response to the rapidly spreading Eagle Creek fire in the Columbia River Gorge. The fire, which began on September 2, has spread west in the Gorge, causing evacuations of a number of rural communities. The emergency declaration applies to unincorporated area of Multnomah County in the Gorge from Gresham and Troutdale east. The declaration allows the county to seek resources from other jurisdictions, including the state, and to pursue emergency measures to help fight the fire. . Read more on Multco.us

    A record 1,150 young people are beginning summer internships at job sites across Multnomah and Washington counties. From architecture firms to schools to local governments, these SummerWorks interns will receive coaching and gain real-world work experience. For most youth, this will be their first job. . Last week more than 450 people turned out to celebrate the SummerWorks kickoff event at Portland State University. .
