#TBT To the very beginning of our tunnel troubles. In 1908 construction workersknown as sand hogsblasted through the first rail tunnels under the Hudson River. The two-track tunnel served the region for over a century, but has now reached full capacity. Significant damage to the tunnels during Hurricane Sandy and recent derailments at Penn Station (as recent as this month!) highlight the pressing need to renovate our system. The first project that sought to expand the tunnels, known as Access to the Regions Core or ARC, was halted. Today, the Gateway Program faces an uncertain future in response to federal budget cuts.

#TBT to when a trip to the movies left you feeling like a star Between 1929 and 1930, five Loews Wonder Theatres opened in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Jersey City. With their over the top decadence, they were designed to make any moviegoer feel like royalty, even in the depths of the Great Depression. This month, we celebrated local Council Member Ydanis Rodriguezs support for preserving the final and most opulent of the so-called movie palaces, the Loews 175th Street Theatre in Washington Heights.
