One year ago today, #HurricaneMatthew made landfall on northern Haiti, bringing rain and destruction. . Today we give thanks for the resilient spirit of our Haitian brothers and sisters - and your gifts that help them recover. . Pictured: Asney Dolan fits a board he used to repair his fishing boat, Secours den Haut (Help From Above). His village, Jean Macoute, was ravaged by the storm and his fishing boat was destroyed, as were so many others in his community. . But with your help, he and others are rebuilding. Praise be to God! . Photo by @allisonshelley #haiti #disasterrelief #disasterresponse #humanitarianresponse

Coffee was not commercially grown in Nepal until the 1970s, but today, there are more than 30,000 enthusiastic smallholder coffee farmers in Nepal working to grow the coffee supply there, like Gunga. . Gunga is the leader of a 25-member coffee coop in Ghan Pokhara. Like many Nepalese coffee farmers, Gunga plans to double or even triple the number of coffee plants grown in the next few years. LWR plans to work with farmers to use best practices in planting, growing and harvesting coffee so that it retains its quality, sells for a good price, and supports farming families. . Your support will also no doubt help coops in Nepal access the international coffee market so that coffee farming can become a sustainable source of good income. . As the Nepalese coffee industry continues to grow, you may soon be drinking Gunga-grown coffee! . #coffeeday #coffeeday2017 #nationalcoffeeday #nationalcoffeeday2017 #internationalcoffeeday #coffee #farmers #sustainabledevelopment

This is Lionel Philador. She farms coffee in the mountains of northeast Haiti. . There was a time when coffee did not make a good living for Lionel and her family. The coffee they grew, they sold to middlemen who paid low prices. . Things began to change for Lionel after she joined the St. Helene de Carice coffee cooperative, a partner of LWR. With your support, she learned about all aspects of coffee farming - including how to start coffee tree seedlings in a nursery. She discovered she liked this part of the process very much - and she was good at it! So she decided to start her own nursery. . Soon after, she got word that the government needed a lot of coffee tree seedlings to distribute to farmers and she decided to try for the opportunity - she ended up getting an order for 25,000 seedlings! . It took the hands of many on her community, but she was able to fill that order, and doing so changed things for Lionel. She was now a successful coffee entrepreneur. And now shes dedicated to helping other women in her community do the same! . With the income shes earned, Lionel has been able to provide her family with s better house and a better education to her children and grandchildren. . THANK YOU for supporting coffee farmer like Lionel through your support of LWR! (Photo by @allisonshelley) #coffeeday #internationalcoffeeday #nationalcoffeeday #coffee
