  • Today we honor the achievements of Dr. Har Gobind Khorana (Jan. 9, 1922 - Nov. 9, 2011), who is celebrated for playing a key role in deciphering the genetic code and its function in protein synthesis, which won him and two other scientists the Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine in 1968. Then, in 1972 he made the first ever artificial gene, and subsequently made the artificial gene able to function in a bacterial cell. Dr. Khorana is known as the "Father of Genetic Engineering"
