Walking Past by Jon Bertsch placed first in this months street/urban themed #BerkLab Photo Club contest. Shot in #SantaCruz, #Bolivia I was drinking #coffee and sheltering from the #rain when I noticed that there was a pool of water reflecting the street between these buildings with the #cathedral walls closing out the end. I decided to kneel down and wait for some action to pass through the #scene. After several attempts to capture people on the street walking past I got one with the kind of dynamic feel that I was looking for. - John Bertsch . . #photooftheday #lablife #blackandwhitephotography #scientistsareartiststoo . . . The Berkeley Lab Photography Club was founded in 2009 by Misty Enriquez in HR and Lorraine Dowling (now retired) who served as Co-Presidents until 2012 when John N. Christensen (EESA) and Steve Kessler (now retired) took over the Co-Presidency. With the retirement of Steve Kessler in 2015, John is now sole President. Currently the #PhotoClub has 118 members drawn from the Berkeley Lab community, comprising beginners to seasoned amateurs, using all levels of photographic equipment from smartphones to digital SLRs. The purpose of the Photo Club is to provide a forum for the exchange of techniques in photography amongst members and the context to improve their photographic art. The activities of the Photo Club encourage development of skills, both artistic and technical, of club members through Monthly Theme contests, presentations at meetings and occasional photography excursions. The best photographs of the Monthly Theme, as judged by club members, are featured in Today At Berkeley Lab, reaching out to the entire lab community. The club also has an annual Spring Showcase where the lab community is invited to view an exhibition of photographic prints created by club members.
