  • This week in 1973, Mariner 10 spacecraft made history when it was launched from @NASAs Kennedy Space Center. It became the first spacecraft designed to use gravity assist. Three months after launch, it flew by Venus and then changed speed and trajectory and crossed #Mercury''s orbit in March 1974. #IEEE #Engineer #Engineering #Tech #Technology #quote #qotd #MondayMotivation #Motivation

  • This week were recognizing IEEE Medal of Honor recipient and two-time Nobel Prize recipient, John Bardeen. Bardeen was one of the Bell Telephone Laboratories researchers responsible for the discovery of the transistor effect and other major advances. He was co-winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1956 and in 1972 for the theory of superconductivity. In 1971 he was awarded the IEEE Medal of Honor for ""his profound contributions to the understanding of the conductivity of solids, to the invention of the transistor, and to the microscopic theory of superconductivity."" #IEEE #Engineer #Engineering #Tech #Technology @NASA
  • Named after the astronomer Galileo Galilei, the Galileo spacecraft was the first U.S. spacecraft to orbit Jupiter. Despite suffering major antenna problems, Galileo achieved the first asteroid flyby of 951 Gaspra and discovered the first asteroid moon, Dactyl, around 243 Ida. On 21 September, 2003, after 14 years in space, Galileo''s mission was terminated by sending it into Jupiter''s atmosphere at a speed of over 48 kilometers per second (30 mi/s). #IEEE #Engineer #Engineering #Tech #Technology @NASA
