The Gymboree Corporation is an American, San Francisco-based corporation that operates a chain of over 1200 specialty retail stores of childrens apparel in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. It has nearly 650 Play and Music Centers worldwide. Bain Capital acquired the company in 2010. Play centers are located across the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada. It has expanded its franchises in 36 countries including Mexico, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Brazil, China, Ecuador, India, Saudi Arabia. In addition, Gymboree franchises nearly 300 Gymboree Play & Music centers around the globe. The Play & Music centers operate on a membership-based monthly fee structure. Each member pays a monthly fee based on the type of class they are taking and receive access to one 50 minute class per week plus 'open play' time when the gym is open to all members during designated times throughout the week. The classes range in age from 6 months through five years old and group children by ages to provide age-appropriate content and playmates. There are traditional 'play'-based classes, but also classes that focus on art, music and school skills for preschoolers and kindergartners.
