Becca, one of our volunteer project evaluators from London, has been in Uganda visiting GlobalGiving nonprofit partners and hosting workshops! In Gulu, she marveled at the produce (including giant okra!) sold by women expanding their businesses through Volunteer Action Network''s microloans. By boosting their income, these women are able to send their children to school. We hope you enjoyed some tasty veggies, @b_eccar! Safe travels! Ram is a teacher and headmaster at the Bigyan Primary School in the remote mountain village of Harmi, Gorkha. When a powerful earthquake struck Nepal two years ago, Gorkha was at its epicenter. Classrooms at Bigyan were damaged, and it wasn''t safe for students to enter them, Ram said. GlobalGiving donors helped build new classrooms at the school through Partnership for Sustainable Development, a nonprofit in Nepal. ""The students are very happy, and we are all grateful,"" Ram said. ""This school is very important to our community because we want our children to be literate. We want to give them a quality education. Now that the school is built, our biggest challenge is finding resources for the students and providing the best education that we can."" About 60 students attend Bigyan, Ram said. The government-funded school is fighting to keep up with resource-rich private schools, which are often the first choice for students with enough money to attend. ""We need to build up the reputation of public schools,"" Ram said. Check out our Story to learn more about Ram''s school and how you helped rebuild it! #humansofgg #gginthefield #nepal #earthquake #education
