The Hiawatha National Forests Peninsula Point in Michigan is a spectacular spot to view monarch butterflies! In the 1980s and 90s, it was a mystery why so many monarchs congregated there. After extensive study, we now understand monarchs use Peninsula Point as both a nursery and a gathering area for their fall migration to Mexico. Today, monitoring of monarchs continues thanks to the efforts of passionate volunteers, such as seasonal wildlife technician Anna Keenan, who took the photo. Go for the monarchs and stay for amazing views of Lake Michigan from the Peninsula Point Lighthouse! #nationalforest #michigan #butterflymonarch #butterfly #nature
