Happy #MedalsMonday! A highlight of the current medals exhibition and one of the most elaborate and technically accomplished medals ever made is Hans Reinharts ''Trinity Medal,'' 1544. It features details that were cast separately and soldered on, such as the body of Christ, the cross, and scepter, which are fully in the round and invite viewers to marvel at the detail achieved in such an intimate scale. Take a closer look during ''The Pursuit of Immortality: Masterpieces from the Scher Collection of Portrait Medals,'' through September 10. #FrickCollection #MedalsattheFrick

One of the most important artistic inventions of the Renaissance, the portrait medal is essential to the history of portraiture in western art. Medals were created primarily to commemorate individuals, often on the occasion of their death. The locket shown here contains a portrait medal and was probably worn close to the heart. Take a closer look during ''The Pursuit of Immortality: Masterpieces from the Scher Collection of Portrait Medals,'' through September 10. #FrickCollection #medalsmonday #MedalsattheFrick

Our current exhibition, ''Divine Encounter: Rembrandts Abraham and the Angels,'' focuses on the artists depictions of Abraham and his various encounters with God and his angels, as told in the book of Genesis. In this drawing, ''God Making His Covenant with Abraham,'' ca. 165658 (on loan to us from Kupferstich-Kabinett, @skdmuseum), Rembrandt captures one of Gods appearances to Abraham with a mass of energetic marks. Between and around these thick, inky lines, the untouched paper gleams, creating the effect of intense light, amid which the Lord, carried by two cherubim, descends to earth in a swirl of fabric and clouds. In response, an overcome Abraham has dropped his walking stick and fallen to the ground, physically unable to take in the splendor before him. On view through August 10. #frickcollection #AbrahamandtheAngels
