We are ending #MuseumWeek with a focus on Heritage and The Frick Art Reference Library! The #FrickLibrary was founded in 1920 by Helen Clay Frick as a memorial to her father Henry Clay Frick. Responding to Mr. Frick''s interest in learning more about the artists whose works he had purchased, Helen began to conduct research on his behalf... which would later become the nucleus of the Library. Helen served as Director from its inception until shortly before her death in 1984. The image above shows Helen (center) with the Library staff in the 1920s. #HeritageMW #WomenMW #frickcollection #frickarchives

Todays #MuseumWeek theme is Books: One of the most interesting publications available at the #FrickMuseumShop is Power Underestimated: American Women Art Collectors."" The book is comprised of papers given at a 2008 symposium of the same name, co-hosted by the Frick''s Center for the History of Collecting, and offers new insights into the attitudes of several women collectors whose approaches to art collecting help us measure the temper of the times in which they lived. For more information on this and other Frick publications, visit frick.org/shop. #frickcollection #BooksMW #WomenMW #thecenteratthefrick

The #MuseumWeek theme for today is Stories: In January of 1914, former actress and decorator of the Colony Club, Elsie de Wolfe, solicited Henry Clay Frick for a share in the furnishings of his house. By mid-March, she was hired to furnish four bedrooms, a room on the third floor, nearly all of the family rooms on the second floor, and several rooms on the ground floor. This image depicts one of the spaces she furnished, Adelaides Fricks (Mrs. HCF) Boudoir on the second floor, which is currently the office of our Director, Ian Wardropper. #StoriesMW #WomenMW #tbt #frickcollection
