The Taj Mahal was built between 1632 and 1653 by order of the Mughal emperor Shah Joahan in memory of his favorite wife. The most spectacular feature of this mausoleum of white marble is the dome that prevails over the tomb. #tajmahal #agra #tajmahalpalace #india #dome #architecture #travel #explore #wanderlust #viewfromabove #birdseyeview #worldview3 #satelliteimage #satelliteimagery #vantagepoint #digitalglobe

Dome structures have been used throughout history by several different civilizations. This week well share some of our favorite satellite images of famous domes, like the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence, Italy. Started in 1296 in the Gothic style and completed in 1436, the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore is Florences beautiful cathedral and symbol of the city. The basilica is one of Italys largest churches, and until the modern era, the famous dome was the largest in the world. It remains the largest brick dome ever constructed. #santamariadelfiore #basilica #florence #firenze #italy #italia #tuscany #toscana #cathedral #dome #bellaitalia #travel #explore #wanderlust #viewfromabove #birdseyeview #worldview2 #satelliteimage #satelliteimagery #vantagepoint #digitalglobe

A salt lake in Yuncheng, China is known for its bright changing colors due to algal blooms and rapidly breeding insects. The phenomenon is caused by the algae species Dunaliella salina, which NASA has reported appears green in marine environments but can turn red if exposed to conditions of high salinity and light intensity. Yunchengs Xiechi Lake was formed around 500 million years ago and has been harvested for salt by the local community for 4,000 years. It is the worlds 3rd largest sodium sulfate inland lake. #saltlake #yuncheng #china #science #lake #travel #explore #wanderlust #viewfromabove #birdseyeview #worldview2 #satelliteimage #satelliteimagery #vantagepoint #digitalglobe

The Great Salt Lake in Utah is the largest salt water lake in the Western Hemisphere and the largest natural lake west of the Mississippi River. Great Salt Lake is salty because it does not have an outlet. Tributary rivers are constantly bringing in small amounts of salt dissolved in their fresh water flow. Once in the Great Salt Lake much of the water evaporates leaving the salt behind. #greatsaltlake #utah #lake #travel #explore #wanderlust #viewfromabove #birdseyeview #worldview2 #satelliteimage #satelliteimagery #vantagepoint #digitalglobe
