In Todee Community in Liberia, a youth volunteer trained by Catholic Relief Services is preparing to distribute non-partisan posters about the upcoming national elections in October 2017. Catholic Relief Services and our partners Naymote and Catholic Justice and Peace Commission are supporting several activities to promote peace, including marches, sporting events, workshops and door-to-door outreach. Because there has been violence in past Liberian elections, the goal of this project is to ensure that conflict-prone areas have a peaceful political transition and that Liberian youth, in particular, participate peacefully in the election. In West Point an overcrowded urban area of Liberia''s capital city, Monrovia water and sanitation continue to be one of the main challenges community members face. There are a few water points with communal latrines and bathes, like the one in this photo, which are linked to the domestic sewer network, but they are insufficient to meet the needs of the community. Starting this month, Catholic Relief Services has been assessing the situation and will start providing assistance to address these challenges. Triveni (left), 11, and Premshila (right), 13, are brother and sister. The two live in a small village in India. Child migration is prevalent in this impoverished area. Poverty pushes a lot of young children out of their village in search of work or to find a better life. Many are often lured by false promises and become victims of human trafficking. Fortunately, Triveni and Premshila do not have to make a decision to leave. Instead, they''re staying and furthering their education in a CRS-program designed to fight child migration.
