Virginia's friend Barbara led a session of her poetry corner one week, centered around their marriages, wedding pictures, and obits. Virginia wrote this poem about her husband Wayne who died of leukemia. A couple of women asked if they could change the name and use the poem in honor of their own dear ones. I agreed and changed "To Wayne" to "To Him." I WONDER To Him I wonder when I kiss my dear ones fading flesh Taste lifes loss as our lips mesh I wonder why Caresses, comfort I did give Then, after all he could not live I wonder how and where To find the strength I sorely need I dream his words so oft indeed He swore hed leave our sweet love never He said lifes strangest force forever Was how love does but change its form And I must accept this as the norm I lift my heavy heart to days bright light His breath, a breeze, calms me at night Warm fire, clear cool water, freshest air Earths green goodness shows me his care I wonderbut truly sense and know Above, among the clouds of angels wings My love, a new soul, sings and sings. Virginia's friend Carol would read this poem aloud as a kind of prayer before they began a poetry corner meeting. OUR DRUTHERS Do unto others may sound rather trite Nevertheless, it is right If we know our own druthers We think kinder of others: Poor Annie needs care and a smile Sams alone, let us tarry awhile Give Alice a hug, lend Harry a hand While able, spread warmth oer the land Help those who are having it rough Our turn will come soon enough.
