In collaboration with the physician, provides and coordinates primary preventive care, emphasizing functional independence and treating a members physical, social and psychological needs. Insures development of plan of care and access to services in accordance with the goals and objectives by communicating and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team including the nursing home administrative staff.
Performs and / or participates in rounds of hospitalized patients, including physical assessment, interpretation of diagnostic studies, interaction with nursing staff and documentation in medical record.
Performs, under the responsibility and supervision of the surgeon, diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to allow the physician to extend services through the more effective use of knowledge in the sphere of decision making required to establish a diagnosis and to plan therapy.
Writes orders for medications, laboratory work and diagnostic tests. Interprets laboratory and test results. Confers with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff and/or other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care.
