This nurse will be competent in the skills/knowledge required and fully participate in unit governance. He/she will practice and adhere to the guidelines specified in the UMMC Professional Nurse Job Charter.
Designs, implements, and evaluates education programs for staff by providing expertise to ensure existing and future education programs, including orientation and ongoing instruction as relevant to individual/group learning needs and patient care needs.
Represents department at research and protocol initiation meetings. Attends and participates in various in-service and external trainings, workshops, conferences and other relevant programs for professional growth and development.
Responsible for the development and implementation of efficient and effective programs for competency validation, continuing education, workforce development and patient education. Programs are based on the principles of evidenced based practice and adult learning.
Functions effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team. Is accountable to patient, family and team members for care provided, and to the nurse manager for totality of work performance.
The Registered Nurse in the ambulatory practices utilizes the nursing process, as defined by the Maryland Nurse Practice Act, and participates as an integral part of the interdisciplinary health care team in providing the highest quality of care to the patient. Provides and coordinates direct care to patients.
Patients admitted to the unit have diagnoses primarily involving the cardiac system, and may or may not require invasive intervention. All patients require cardiac monitoring and are considered critically ill or unstable.
