Responsible for extensive collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, other patient caregivers, and medical records coding staff to improve quality and completeness of documentation of care provided and coded.
The clinical specialist is involved in direct patient care through multidisciplinary rounding and patient monitoring, develops and implements education programs for pharmacists, educates and trains pharmacy residents and students, and provides in-service education to physicians, nurses, and medical students.
Provide clinically based concurrent and retrospective review of inpatient medical records to evaluate the documentation and utilization of acute care services; include facilitation of appropriate physician documentation of care to accurately reflect patient severity of illness and risk of mortality.
The CNS coordinates and guides clinical activities/projects of nurses within a practice area. The CNS is accountable for collaborating with members of the health care team to design, implement, and measure safe, cost-effective, evidence-based care strategies.
