The successful candidate will work with a group of scientists and software developers at the Satellite Oceanography and Climatology Division (SOCD) under the NOAA Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR). The position is long term, contingent upon performance.
The Applications Developer performs duties and tasks to support full systems life cycle management (e.g., analyses, technical requirements, design, coding, testing, implementation of systems and applications software, etc.).
In this role, you will work closely with customers and Account Managers in a defined territory to complete service support functions that include equipment setup, inventory control, on-site water analyses, specialty chemical product evaluations and selection, and daily troubleshooting of operational issues related to water and energy utilities.
In this role, the selected candidate must have
experience with developing C, C++, C# for UNIX, Linux, or Windows environments, including developing DLLs or EXEs and C development on Windows, including Win32, Windows internals, reverse engineering of x86 Windows binaries, scripting in Python, network protocol analysis, and IA understanding, including crypto and security.

In this role, you will participate and lead software design and implementation efforts, facilitate and contribute to architectural and code reviews, and assist with providing technical leadership to a team charged with system implementation.
In this role, you will validate development of prototypical systems or system components to demonstrate technical feasibility; conduct and supervise the gathering and analysis of prospective user needs for the development and modification of information systems.
In this role, you will work with the technology team lead to design, build, deploy and support our various science to service℠ products and services using microsoft technologies and open source products and concepts.
