The Principal Mechanical Engineer performs broad based mechanical design and development including: engagement and requirements assessment, mechanical architecture design, key components selection, as well as planning for integration and test.
In this role, the selected candidate will perform work that involves conventional engineering practices but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials, and difficult coordination requirements.

In this role, you will be responsible for the innovation, evolution, and maintenance of a broad set of electrical engineering systems to facilitate the Institutes mission, research, and product development efforts. Participates in group design projects as well as initiates and executes individual design efforts.
The selected individual will assist project managers with the preparation of engineering studies, design plans and specifications and will occasionally visit job sites to perform project tasks including, field tests, data gathering, field inspections, surveying and construction observation.
In this role, you will be responsible for the mechanical testing aspects of a project, participating on cross-functional project team through all phases of the product development process, and assisting the technical team with planning executing, documenting and communicating testing activities.
In this role, you will be responsible to coordinate, review and approve electrical/ software documentation created by external partners, including product requirements, schematics, code, verification and validation test protocols and reports. Plan and execute design verification and design validation activities.
