Evaluate assigned patients and plans, implements and documents nursing care. Assists physicians during examinations and procedures. Performs various patient tests and administers medications within the scope of practice of the registered nurse.
Assess patients; collect and document the patients current health status and medical history. Perform both direct patient care (i.e.. medication administration), as well as indirect patient care (i.e.. giving thorough, concise report at change of shift).
The nurse leader position supports the nurse manager and unit staff as follows. In collaboration with unit/service nursing leadership, serves as a role model and resource for nursing personnel, and promotes collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other health disciplines in the management of the unit and needs of patients and families.
Perform administrative responsibilities: i.e. update patient charts, billing codes and completing of required documents from outside agencies: i.e. schools, employers, New York State Department of Social Services, etc.
