The successful candidate will work with a group of scientists and software developers at the Satellite Oceanography and Climatology Division (SOCD) under the NOAA Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR). The position is long term, contingent upon performance.
The Applications Developer performs duties and tasks to support full systems life cycle management (e.g., analyses, technical requirements, design, coding, testing, implementation of systems and applications software, etc.).

In this role, the selected candidate will test of all developed programs and assure integration testing of data from various sources; ensure that architecture guidelines are adhered to for all development.
In this role, the selected candidate must have an experience with system, application, and process documentation including tools such as MS-Visio, etc; experience in writing SQLs (Proficiency in Stored Procedures, Triggers, Batch processing and Performance tuning).
This position is responsible for corruption bugs to include stack overflows, heap overflows, integer overflows, and logical flaws. Experience with mitigation (ASLR, Stack cookies, non-executable memory) to deter exploitation and how can they be bypassed.
In this role, the selected candidate will design, develop and implement secure technology (HTTPS) for all FEMA public facing websites in compliance with OMB M-15-13; manage development, integration, test, release, configuration and changes, and POA&Ms.
The ideal Application Developer candidate will have development and system support experience related to the ANSI COBOL programming language, ACUCOBOL compiler and Oracle database technologies in Unix/Linux environments.
This position serves in the field liaison capacity with other company personnel, suppliers, manufacturing, and our customers. Provides technical support and assistance to our customers and sales staff thorough site service visits, training courses, phone support, trade shows and sales demonstration.
