Marc Cenedella is the Founder, Executive Chairman and CEO of Ladders, Inc., the comprehensive career resource dedicated to helping professionals ‘Manage, Market and Move-up’ in their careers. Over the last decade, Ladders has transformed the way job candidates and recruiters connect online. Marc founded the company in 2003, and is based in the New York headquarters.

Under Marc’s leadership, Ladders, Inc. has grown to more than 8 million members, making his weekly “Career Advice” newsletter to members among the largest and longest-running newsletters of its type in the world. Garnering numerous accolades over the past decade, Ladders, Inc. has been recognized as one of the Best Companies to Work for in New York, the Most Valuable Start-up in New York by Silicon Alley Insider, and has won the Webby Award for Best Employment Website. A nationally renowned thought leader on job search, career management, recruiting, and business, Marc is frequently sought out by national media outlets and organizations for his expert commentary on employment and entrepreneurialism.

Hailing from Fredonia, New York, Marc holds an MBA with high distinction from Harvard Business School, where he was named a Baker Scholar, as well as a BA in Political Science from Yale College.

Geoffrey Bourne is the Chief Technology Officer for Ladders, the comprehensive career resource dedicated to helping professionals ‘Manage, Market and Move-up’ in their careers. He is responsible for developing the overall technology vision for the company and overseeing Ladders’ engineering organization. His goal is to lead a world-class team of engineers in building amazing products for the career-driven professional. He joined the company in June 2015 and is based in the New York headquarters.

Geoffrey brings over 15 years of experience in digital technology, having worked at industry leading brands such as Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, and several start-ups. Before joining Ladders, Geoffrey was the Vice President of Global Digital Technology at Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide where he oversaw the digital enterprise technology strategy and application development. Prior to this, he had an impressive seven year stint at Citi, where he rose to the position of Senior Vice President of Mobile Technology & Strategy for the Private Bank division. In this role he delivered numerous best-in-class products including the company’s award winning, first-to-market Private Bank iPhone and iPad apps focused on deepening the client relationship and growing wallet share through interactive and personalized experiences.

Over the course of his career, Geoffrey has earned a variety of awards for the innovative digital products he’s brought to life in the financial services sector. He is the author of numerous publications on Agile development and has a B.S. in Computer Science from Washington & Lee University.

Director of Product Management

Taya Page is the Director of Product Management for Ladders, the online job-matching service for career-driven professionals. Her goal at Ladders is to develop products that help professionals Manage, Market and Move-up in their careers – from streamlining job searches, marketing their skills, understanding their competition, and connecting with the right contacts – all to drive lifelong career improvement. She joined the company in June 2015 and is based in the New York headquarters.

Taya brings over 14 years of experience in product development and user experience in education technology. Before joining Ladders, Taya was the Senior Product Owner at Amplify, developing software for an Android tablet that was custom built for K-12 students. The native app drove real-time personalized classroom instruction as well as managed the security and privacy needs of school-age children.

Prior to Amplify, Taya was Director of Product Development at TaskStream where she scaled product development from a startup of four developers to an engineering, product, and UX team of 35. Her work was instrumental in helping the company become the leading assessment and accreditation solution for teacher credentialing programs.

Taya began her career as a developer creating custom content management solutions. She has a B.A. with honors with a Major in Fine Arts and a Minor in Computer Science from the University of Chicago.

Vanessa Janowski

Director of Product

Vanessa Janowski is the Director of Product for Ladders, the comprehensive career resource dedicated to helping professionals manage, market and move up in their careers. She joined the company in November 2015 and is based in the New York headquarters.

Vanessa brings over 10 years of experience in product development and user experience research to Ladders. Before joining Ladders, Vanessa led the Global Growth team at Shutterstock, where she created and drove product strategy as well as international expansion. Prior to Shutterstock, Vanessa worked as a data scientist at Google, where she focused on understanding user behavior in Gmail and developed product recommendations.

Vanessa holds a PhD in Neuroeconomics from Caltech, an MSc in Applicable Mathematics from the London School of Economics, and a BA in Economics from Yale College. She speaks six languages fluently.

Robert Chefitz
Member, Board of Directors

Robert Chefitz sits on the Board of Directors for Ladders, the online job-matching service for career-driven professionals, on which he has served since 2007. He is General Partner and Founder of Egis Capital Partners, a private equity fund focused on the security industry.

Over the past 11 years, Robert has been a founding investor in the NJTC Venture Fund, the venture capital investment arm of the New Jersey Technology Council, specializing in early-stage investments. Currently, he sits on several boards, including FreightWatch International, Westec Intelligent Surveillance, Alarm.com, and iLevel Solutions, where he serves as Chairman. Previously, Robert worked at Apax Partners, a global private equity and venture capital firm, where he led some of its most successful investments, including Office Depot and Protection One. During his 15-year tenure there, he was involved in raising, investing, and managing several funds totaling $2.5 billion dollars. Robert started his career at private equity firm Golder Thoma & Co., where he was responsible for major investments, including PageNet and Cellular Network Partners.

Robert holds a BA from Northwestern University and an MBA from Columbia University.

Paul Smurl

Paul Smurl sits on the Board of Directors for Ladders, on which he has served since July 2014.

Paul works with colleagues in The New York Times newsroom and across the business to lead the development of the company's master product, the expression of The New York Times news report on all digital platforms. Smurl joined the company in 2003 and served as vice president of advertising, followed by vice president of digital paid products, before moving to his current role.

Before joining The New York Times, Smurl was a management consultant and attorney, advising media and telecommunications companies on business strategy and legal matters. He earned a bachelor's degree from Indiana University, a J.D. from Columbia Law School and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
