Meet You on the 50-Yard Line!

Football kicks off next week, and so does the job hunt season! With HR people and hiring managers headed back from their summer vacations, now's the time to get in your wind sprints and hit the sled.

  1. Get a game plan. If you don't know where you're going, you're sure to end up there! So before you get started, define exactly what you want. Pick a few ideal jobs - the more focused you are in your search, the more likely you are to succeed. If you need to see job descriptions to get you started, search jobs now to get a feel for what's out there.

  2. Watch the film. There's no greater secret to success than being well-informed. Maybe sitting on the beach all summer has left you a bit soft and out of touch with the industry? Well, in addition to catching up on back copies of industry trade mags, why not set up a Google alert for hot topics current in your biz?

  3. Learn your playbook. Without a plan of attack, and the guts to stick to it, you'll never beat the competition. Winning takes speed and efficiency. Remember those job descriptions you reviewed in Step 2? Use them to craft job alerts and get your latest matches sent directly to your inbox!

  4. Come charging out of the tunnel. 80% of life is showing up. If you're not on the field on game day, you can't win. Similarly, you need to create or update your bio to make sure recruiters can find you when they're looking for their next great hire. Pick up the extra yard by putting even more info in your bio - that makes it easier for recruiters to find you!

  5. Look pretty for the press. In this day and age, how you present yourself to the world can be just as important as your on-field heroics. And it's the same in your job hunt. How your resume presents what you've done is just as important as that big promotion you got back in '97. Is your resume ready for the big game? Get a free resume critique to find out!

OK, folks, time to suit up - the season's almost here and you need to hustle!
