Over the past five years, our subscribers have turned TheLadders.com into the premier place for $100k+ job-seekers and $100k+ jobs, so in this week of giving thanks, we’d like to say “Thanks!” to all of you for making the system work ...
We recently gathered for our monthly all-hands meeting at a local movie theater (photo above). The top topic on our minds, as I’m sure it is for all of you, is how to find even more jobs. Given the economic environment, we’ve set a goal for ourselves of publishing 30% more jobs per week by the first week of January. And we’ve organized a special “Readiness Brigade” here at TheLadders to help focus on finding those jobs and getting them in front of you.
I started TheLadders.com five years ago after helping sell HotJobs to Yahoo! The problem that I saw over and over again was that whenever a hiring manager or recruiter posted a really good job on the internet, it would get inundated with a deluge of unqualified applicants. Because there was no screening system, no pre-qualification procedure, the response would be overwhelming and disappointing, and eventually people learned to not post their high-end jobs online.
And, you know, the sad truth is that in the midst of this economic meltdown, the volume of “resume spam” from the mass-market job boards is only going to increase. Which means old methods of finding candidates are going to become even less attractive to the people who want to hire you. And that’s why we are re-doubling our efforts to connect with those recruiters and hiring managers. I shared some of these “behind the scenes” activities with you back in September, when I wrote “You Get What You Pay For.”
With unemployment increasing nationally, exceeding 9% in some states, I think we still have a ways to go before we hit the bottom. And this short week marks a good time to get back to the basics. Take advantage of the long weekend to re-read my job hunt primer from earlier this year here.
Readers, I know these times are hard, and the days look dark. But please know that your 280 friends at TheLadders.com are committed to seeing you through! You will find your next job... and we will all give “Thanks” for that together!
Enjoy the stuffing!
Warmest Regards,
