VICE PRESIDENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY – Chemical Company

The Vice President of Environmental, Health & Safety will develop, implement and administer comprehensive environmental, health, safety programs on a worldwide basis for the company’s manufacturing and administrative facilities.

THE OPPORTUNITY



 



Our client is seeking a VP of Environmental, Health & Safety to provide strategic leadership in EH&S compliance.  The VP of Environmental, Health & Safety will develop, implement and administer comprehensive environmental, health, safety programs on a worldwide basis for the company’s manufacturing and administrative facilities.



 



Experience internationally, as well as in the US, is desired.  This position has international responsibility and experience in Europe, Asia, South America and Canada is desired.



 



The VP of Environmental, Health & Safety will develop and oversee product stewardship programs for the company in coordination with site safety and environmental managers. 



 



The VP of Environmental, Health & Safety will oversee the assessment of environmental, health and safety risks throughout the organization, and establish best practices and global standards that enable site managers to ensure compliance with Federal, State and local regulations as well as all applicable global regulatory standards.



 



This position is located in the Atlanta, GA area.



 



RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:



 










  • Establish the strategic direction of the Environmental, Health & Safety Department

  • Drive continual EH&S improvement at all manufacturing sites and business locations through the development of programs and standards, training, and best practices.

  • Establish and maintain a cost effective and efficient system for providing product safety and stewardship information to enhance value to customers and other third parties.

  • Develop and manage systems and practices that encourage continual improvement in environmental, health and safety performance at each of the operating units.

  • Conduct facility risk assessments to identify high risk operations and determine needed courses of action, develop mitigation plans and practices, and make recommendations as warranted.

  • Assist in acquisition due diligence, including consulting with experts to provide environmental testing, facility inspection and evaluation, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

  • Work with the company’s Chief Legal Council, as well as the Risk & Sustainability Group to prepare for and represent the company during regulatory audits (EPA, DOT, OSHA, etc.) and crisis management.

  • Assist business units with their licenses and permitting requirements as needed.

  • Develop and manage the Environmental, Health & Safety Department budget to assure efficient and cost effective performance and operations.

  • Represent the interests of the company with trade groups and governmental agencies.



 



REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:



 










  • BS/ BA Degree in Engineering, Science, Safety or related discipline.

  • CSP and/ or CIH certification

  • 15+ years experience in EHS department

  • 5+ years in a senior safety or environment leadership position directing or managing a multi-faceted EHS program with a global manufacturing company.

  • Demonstrated experience dealing with customers, governmental agencies and other third parties.

  • Willingness to travel extensive, as needed
